The First Presbyterian Church announces a special Sunday School program with inspiring music next Sunday World Temperance Sunday at 10 A M. Members are urged to attend promptly.
Professor R. W. Swetland of Peddie Institute will preach Sunday morning. The C. E. Society meets Sunday evening at the First Presbyterian chapel with leader William Applegate.
A group of friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Borer on Saturday evening. The hosts were unaware until guests arrived at their home and dancing and refreshments followed. Attending couples included Mr and Mrs E S Barclay, Mr and Mrs G B Mershon, Mr and Mrs W H Perrine, Mr and Mrs R P Stillwell, Mr and Mrs W R Silvers, Mr and Mrs W H Johnson, Mr and Mrs H N Scott, and Mrs Clifford Chamberlain.
The Circle will meet next Wednesday at the home of Mrs Burroughs to discuss the topic Holland.
Mrs. J. S. Silvers and Mrs. Ella Stults joined Mrs. C. P. Emmons and Mrs. E. Barclay at a Cecilian Club recital in Freehold on Thursday afternoon.
Thomas B. Woolston drove a valued horse to Hightstown on Monday for business. After returning he stabled the animal, and it collapsed and died quickly, a heavy loss to Woolston given the horse’s suitability for his work.
Willis Applegate hosts a Thursday demonstration by Thomas Peppler Son Co. A fine showing draws attention. The Citi zen's Course schedules a concert for Wednesday November 18 featuring the Marietta Le Dell Company. A strong, varied program of vocal and instrumental numbers and recitations is anticipated with a large audience expected.
A temperance rally led by E S Barclay drew a large chorus of boys and an orchestra to the Second Presbyterian chapel last evening. Mrs E B Barclay organized the event, with readings, recitations, and songs. it will be repeated Sunday morning at the Sunday school.
Mr and Mrs Walter Dey hosted a reception at their home on Monday evening for their tenth wedding anniversary. Green and white decorations, music by Mies Gibson of New Brunswick, readings by Miss Clara Chamberlin of Cranbury, and a bountiful supper followed. Attending were numerous friends and relatives including Richard Mason and wife, John Bennett and wife, J E Bennett and wife, Miss Mabel Bennett, Miss Bessie Perrine, Mrs Samuel Bennett, James Hutchinson and wife, Samuel Bennett and wife, and many others.
The Butcher residence hosted a Halloween party Saturday evening for the Triangle Club and guests. The lively event featured corn stalks pumpkins autumn leaves and a witches den with verse recitations. Music dancing and a Halloween menu followed with many attendees in costumes and masks.
John Carlson has passed the state examination to be a pharmacist and is now a registered pharmacist. The notice congratulates him and wishes success in his practice.
Last Sunday near Englishtown Joseph C Chamberlain and family visited friends when a fire discovered after 2 pm engulfed the barn. Gideon Applegate rescued a horse as Cranbury and Hightsown firefighters saved the house and outbuildings, with losses around 37000 and a crowd gathering.
Early Monday afternoon a fire destroyed the new barn and sheds of Nelson Thompson at Kingston. Fire units from Princeton arrived too late to save the structures, which housed hay and harness. Horses were rescued, and the cause is suspected to be electrical wiring with worn insulation. The nearby residence and mill were spared due to wind direction.
The EB B Chamberlain Company plans to replace the structure recently destroyed by fire at Robbinsville. The firm deals in rye straw hay grain and related products. The old building occupied several acres and had a capacity greater than any similar structure in the area.

William H. DeBow bought Elva C. Borer’s property at a Saturday public sale for 4600 dollars. A school wagon from East Windsor District overturned near Shangle Crossings, injuring Lizzie Wolff and leaving her head caught on a nail with a severe scalp wound.
The will of Major Kenneth J. Duncan of New Brunswick probate on Monday by Surrogate D. W. Clayton. He leaves 5 000 to daughter Cora Louise Duncan and household goods, 5 000 to son Wilson J. Duncan plus 470 with interest from 1869, 1 000 to Charles Schenck the coachman, a gift to the Children's Industrial Home, and 12 000 to be placed in trust for Martha N. Jewell during her lifetime with quarterly income.
James Vandenburgh sold the Red Tavern Hotel and distillery to James Courtney of Etra with possession on March 1 1915. Vandenburgh retires from the hotel business and retains the farm. The Red Tavern had been run by the Vandenburgh family for many years.
