Hiram Yorke Parker born Norwich New York October 11 1876 died in Taber Alberta June 8 aged 38. He was city engineer here from 1910 to 1913 and later worked for Superior Coal Co. in Taber. He was a Cornell civil engineer and member of Masons and Odd Fellows. Sympathy extended to wife and children.
The Overseas Club held its monthly social and whist drive with strong attendance. Winners were Mrs Woods and Mr Rowland. booby prizes went to Mrs E H Seaman and Mr Roaindale. The program featured time-honored games, songs, recitations, and a parody. A Dyeravan cookery sale is planned for Saturday June 19 from 3 to 6 pm.
Miss Helen Harrison secretary treasurer of the Cranbrook Branch of the St John Ambulance Association acknowledges donations to the Red Cross Work Fund totaling 46.00 dollars. Individual gifts include 10.00 from Mr W A Nisbet and 5.00 from Mrs Geo F Stevenson, among others.
El Paso Texas June 10 H C Miles British vice consul telegraphed Gen Villa demanding punishment of Villa soldiers responsible for the recent killing of four and wounding of one British subject at Tuxpam The message was sent on instructions from Sir Cecil Spring Rice British ambassador at Washington.
In Cranbrook on June 10 1915 soldiers en route home thank local citizens for entertainment and farewell events. Sergt Major Pearce praises recruits and hopes they will continue to serve with distinction. Also notes Home Guards joining by prominent business men and Tuesday drill nights. London report notes Asquith to propose a new war credit of 1.25 to 1.5 billion.
Cranbrook Electric Light Co Ltd advertises vacuum cleaners for rent at 50c and 1.00 per hour with cartage. The pitch claims efficient cleaning of carpets and car pets in an eight room house in two hours, safer than traditional carpet beaters.
