Flower Show Planned by Women Institute on August 17
The Women's Institute monthly meeting at Maple Hall confirmed a Flower Show for August 17 with an exhibition of women’s work, cookery, fruit preserving and more. Admission ten cents will fund Red Cross work. Delegates were chosen for Nelson convention. A death notice for Mrs. Robt Clarke was read and two verses of Nearer My God to Thee sung in tribute. The library gained nineteen new books, total 72. Miss Olive White demonstrated cakes and cookies and, despite her mother’s absence, impressed as the youngest demonstrator. A paper on Music in Our Army was read, with musical items from several members. The meeting closed with the National Anthem.

A Cranbrook couple, Misa Lillian Finniss and Dan Evans, wed at a home ceremony in Edmonton Alta. The bride, longtime soprano at First Baptist Church, wore pearl grey silk and carried bridal roses. Rev. F W Patterson officiated with Miss Portia Nobles as bridesmaid and Elmer Flowers as ring bearer. After a ballet supper, the couple left for their Highlands home amid confetti and well wishes.

Lumber shipments to Australia exceed BC exports
Reports from Ottawa indicate Pacific coast timber exports to Australia this year have topped 20 million feet in twelve Sydney cargoes, six to Melbourne, and two to Adelaide. Most ships sailed from U S ports with one BC vessel. A Baltic timber shortage may curb shipments for the rest of the year. A Canada customs preference for forest products could aid the market.
