Aldicarb Found in More Portage County Wells

The Wisconsin DNR reports aldicarb at 10 ppb or higher in six Portage County wells. Testing across 10 counties targets the scope of contamination from potato field pesticide use. Union Carbide will reimburse affected residents. shallow wells near sandy potato fields face higher risk.

Royal show planned at UW River Falls

The 21st UW River Falls royal showmanship contest will be held Oct 14 at 5 30 p m at University Lab Farm No 1 south of River Falls on Hwy 35. About 100 entrants compete in eight classes with three overall champions. A corn field day follows Oct 1 at the Ivan Shafer farm Elmwood. A TV program Spectrum 28 airs Oct 1 and Oct 3 discussing transportation issues.
