High moisture ground ear corn boosts dairy yields
Dairymen can increase milk production by 16 to 20 percent per acre by ensiling high moisture ground ear corn, says UW Extension dairy scientist Howard Larsen. The method reduces field losses, lowers drying costs, and helps cows stay on feed, with advice on equipment, moisture targets, and silo management.

Cadott Wins Chippewa County Land Judging Contest
Cadott High School FFA won the Chippewa County Land Judging Contest held September 28 at Jerome Sonnentag farm. Cadott scored 687 of 900 with teammates Steve Gindt Russ Greenwood Kevin Hager and Jean Kyes. Cornell High School placed second, followed by Chippewa Falls Stanley-Boyd and Bloomer. Paul Korn of Stanley-Boyd led top scorers with 238, with Greenwood 235 Swanson 234 Hillestad 232 and Kyes 232 also among the top finishers.

The GAO report released to the House subcommittee says American farmers could save about 74 million barrels of oil annually by embracing efficient water management conservation tillage better fertilizer use grain drying and improved farm equipment maintenance. It urges USDA to promote energy conservation with farmer specific economic and technical guidance.
