Record shows Albacore harvest at 28-year low off Oregon coast
Albacore tuna harvest off the Oregon coast hits its lowest level in 28 years, sparking biologists to speculate about interception by Japanese fishermen. Oregon NMFS biologist Larry Hreha notes fishermen relied on offshore trips amid a short salmon season, while perch stocks in Green Bay face collapse due to overfishing and environmental factors. Wisconsin DNR plans hearings on changes, including a potential 100,000 pound commercial perch quota, as Sea Grant and university researchers publish a 10-page pamphlet outlining causes and remedies.
