Grange leader calls dairy assessment a food tax in Wisconsin
Lester Wallace of Beloit told Grange members at their 111th annual Janesville meeting that a 50 cents per hundredweight dairy assessment is a bona fide food tax that will pull about 110 million dollars from Wisconsin's economy. He urged support for a self help program and a five cent per hundredweight marketing checkoff to fund dairy promotion, while defending bloc voting as a fair feature for a farmer elected board.
