Sara Nunn-Askevold lives over 50 miles from a city with no arena or gated jumps. She runs horse shows drawing 200 riders from at least three states, breeds a small, self-sufficient farm, and balances riding clinics with farming the 120 acres. Her story blends resilience, simple living, and a forthcoming foal amid aging stallion Mikado.
Lakeshore Technical Institute will sponsor a youth horse judging contest on Saturday October 23 at the Cleveland campus. Open to those 18 and younger, the event features two halter and two performance classes with two age divisions 13 and under and 14 to 18. Teams of four compete with an alternate whose score is discarded in team totals. Preregistration closes October 20. A 4-H competitive horse ride for youths is planned Oct 9 at Horseman's Park west of Sheboygan. Riders may choose 10 mile novice or 25 mile competitive routes, with completion awards and age group prizes. Entry fees are 8 and 10 dollars for youths and 6 dollars for parents. Chippewa County 4 H plans a trail ride this Saturday at Big Falls meeting at 9 30 a m at the north entrance. Ride starts 10 a m with a noon potluck break and ends by 2 30 p m. Don Dukerschein says the county program provides ride insurance. Linda Bateman handles registrations at 723 7660.
