High solids milk urged for premium by Guernsey leader
Russell Bringe, rural Holmen dairyman and secretary of the Tri-State Guernsey Producers Co op, urged Wisconsin Jersey breeders to pursue statewide markets for high solids milk. He said co op boards are tied up in politics while test loads prove 3.8 to 4.1 fat milk yields 25 to 40 percent more cheese and 15 percent more cheddar. He warned against token component pricing and predicted new markets develop within a year with potential state wide availability by fall and even interstate shipments to Florida.
