No tillage weeds discussed at Wisconsin show
At the Western Wisconsin Conservation Tillage Show in Eau Claire, UW Extension experts John Wedberg, Larry Bundy and Paul Carter addressed insect control, soil fertility, and corn hybrids for conservation tillage. Wedberg warned of new insect problems but said they are manageable, urged careful scouting, certification for pesticide applicators, and questioned so called suppression. Bundy outlined fertility management, soil testing, and timing to reduce nitrogen losses, while Carter advised optimal plant populations and early planting dates to maximize yields under conservation tillage. St Croix DHIA votes to merge with Menomonie center
The St Croix County DHIA approved joining the DHIA Cooperative Menomonie Center by a 120 to 37 vote. The merger took effect March 1. New board members include Gerald Afdahl Hammond and A I Cronk Woodville for three years, David Logghe Glenwood City for two, and David Swanepoel Emerald for one year with Anna Kusilek Baldwin as alternate.
