Wisconsin Agriculture Panel Recommends Funds For FmHA Loan Processing
The Governor's Commission on Agriculture urged the Legislature to fund a program to speed Farm ers Home Administration spring operating loans. The plan includes hiring limited-term workers to support seven regional FmHA offices and using the governor's office as a volunteer staffing clearinghouse. No dollar amount was set, though $100,000 was floated. The group also endorsed extending feed grain sign up and the diversion program. Additionally, a separate loan support program from Farm Credit Services aims to provide about $50 million in new, low interest loans to distressed Wisconsin farmers at 9.5 to 10 percent, with delinquencies noted in Farm Credit loans and PCA loans. The commission will forward recommendations to Gov. Anthony Earl for a March legislative push.
