Veterinary student trades scalpel for farrier hammer at UW River Falls
Gretchen Gerber, a 23 year old junior at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, completed ten days of farrier training at UW River Falls horse science program. She and two fellow UMN students joined eight women in a class that marked the first time women made up half the cohort. The course offers practical hoof care knowledge not taught in veterinary school, though no academic credit was awarded.

BLM Offers Burros For Adoption At Wild Bill's Ranch
The Bureau of Land Management plans a July 28 to 31 adoption event at Wild Bill's Blue Ribbon Ranch near here, moving 70 to 75 wild burros to Wisconsin and Minnesota residents. Applicants pay a $140 per burro fee, must show care facilities, and may be screened at the ranch. Adoptions are part of a larger Arizona roundup of 300 animals. prior policy favored pairs, with jennies and studs accounted for as needed.

Arabian horse show slated for Dunn County July 2 3
The Indianhead Arabian Horse Society hosts its third Class A show at Dunn County Recreation Park in Menomonie on July 2 and 3. Events start 7 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday with halter, pleasure driving, hunter under saddle, park horse, dressage, and working cow horse, plus a Saturday evening program beginning at 4 p.m. with working hunter and trail classes.
