Strawberries a way of life for Merrilla family
Lloyd Olson and his wife Marie run a roadside strawberry stand along highways 12 27 and I 94 near Merrillan Wisconsin. The couple, farming since the 1930s, harvest only what sells daily and note a drier spring and last winter’s deep snow affecting yields. They once managed up to nine acres, now two to six, with irrigation absent despite growing demand from travelers and truckers.

Prizes Offered During Dairy Month in Vernon County
Vernon County marks dairy month with June events. Mystery tippers will leave $1 tips at area restaurants for waitresses who suggest milk. Viroqua Merchants Club will give $5 tips for milk recommendations. Every Friday in June Miss Viroqua and helpers give free cheese 10 am to 1 pm at local banks, donated by Wisconsin Dairies, Golden Guernsey and AMPI.
