Deer crop damage threat grows in central Wisconsin
State Natural Resources Board chair John Lawton warned of a horrendous deer damage problem if the herd expands further in central Wisconsin. Orchardist Doug Shefelbine cited $12,000 in 1980 and over $5,000 last year, warning costs could reach $25,000 this year. He said a permit to shoot deer was revoked, with two permit applications denied by the La Crosse DNR office.
