River Country RC&D elects officers and plans 1982 projects
River Country RC&D elected Delbert Smith president replacing Francis Coulson who declined another term. Arvid Anderson was named secretary treasurer, with Coulson serving as vice president. The council discussed nine counties, staffing, and a $22,000 forestry education grant to raise awareness of woodlot management after the 1980 storms. Solar water heater workshop starts Thursday in Dunn County
Dunn County Extension Office offers a two session workshop teaching homeowners to build and install solar water heaters. Participants construct two or more panels covering about half of a family's yearly hot water needs. Kit costs range 950 to 1000 dollars with a 90 dollar workshop fee. 4-H Committee Plans July Trip For Young Members
Barb Woodruff chair of the Chippewa County 4-H Trip Committee says plans for the first younger member trip are complete with a few spaces left. The tour runs July 7 and 8 visiting Milwaukee Zoo and Milwaukee Public Museum, with a Brewers game and dorm lodging. 47 spaces are reserved at 20.75 dollars per person. four adults will serve as chaperones. Trempealeau youths win area soil poster awards
Three Trempealeau County youths placed in a nine county soil and water conservation district contest held recently. Ivy Smieja won second in the elementary division for her poster Dont Hurt the Things You Love. Eric Steenlage took first in the junior division with Save the Soil Reap the Harvest.
