State objects to pay plan in dairy incentives controversy

A Wisconsin agriculture official disputed a June 21 Country Today article claiming state approval of Wisconsin Dairies Baraboo incentive pay. Claire Jackson of DATCP said no formal ruling exists, tests and payout rules require uniformity, and the department is reviewing legality and discrimination concerns with plans for protein and bacteria bonuses.

Area meetings set on Chippewa River pollution

Public meetings will discuss water pollution in the Lower Chippewa River basin across Dunn Chippewa Barron and Eau Claire counties. Sessions run July 10 at Menomonie July 11 Chippewa County July 12 Barron County July 13 Eau Claire County at 8 p.m. Written comments accepted until Aug 4 with a final report due late August.
