Dr. Robert Cropp of UW Platteville told 100 farmers at the Wisconsin Farm Management Tour that Grade A milk could reach 15.01 per hundred and manufacturing milk 14.49 by 1985 if production stays steady. He noted production costs favor higher output and urged growers to carefully plan expansion.
State economist Dr. Cropp told tour participants that inflation could push milk prices by 1985 while dairy production holds. He noted Wisconsin production remains on a high path as other states slow, boosting out of state spot shipments and regional market share. He saw no threats from dairy imports, with 1.6 percent of 1977 production.
West central Wisconsin counties begin meetings to gather citizen input on the Resource Conservation Act of 1977. Area SCS director Mike Smith emphasizes public involvement as the act inventories soil and water resources to produce a five year national program with annual evaluations and shared costs among landowners and government entities.
County meetings to discuss the Resource Conservation Act are scheduled in Barron Buffalo Chippewa Clark Owen Neillsville Eau Claire Jackson Pepin Polk Rusk St. Croix Trempealeau with dates ranging from July 6 to mid August and venues including courthouses auditoriums and schools.
