Transfer to neighbor denied court rules 86 year old farmer keeps land
Chippewa County Circuit Judge Richard Stafford ruled an April 1980 deed transfer of 640 acres, a freezer, saddles and cattle to neighbors in exchange for payments and woodcutting was invalid. He cited lack of documented benefits for Andy Morey, declared incompetent due to senile dementia, and noted the neighbors’ aid and a guardian's appointment.

County fairs face reduced state subsidies this year
Wisconsin officials said 78 county and district fairs will receive lower subsidies after last year’s total exceeding the 368,500 dollar state ceiling. Robert Thayer of the Agriculture Department cited budget constraints while Williams noted 1981 net premium costs around 564,596 dollars, about 15,000 over the limit. Attendance at all fairs likely surpassed 1980’s 2.5 million.
