Public hearings approved on aldicarb testing and dairy rules

The plan requires testing wells in designated areas before the next growing season and establishing groundwater monitoring at application sites with contamination risk. Emergency limits and permanent rules target spring use, with hearings slated for Dane Langlade and Portage counties. The board also advanced a proposal for permanent rules on emergency slaughter of injured animals and heard Sen. Ginseng Market Order Advances in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Ginseng Growers Association and DATCP plan a state marketing order to improve ginseng quality and expand sales. A producer assessment would fund research, market development, and education, with 1,105 registered growers, majority in Marathon County. First-year rates are 10 cents per pound for root and 1.50 per pound for seed, with future caps and a $150,000–$300,000 annual fund. A seven-member board would administer it, with a producer advisory referendum every five years. Hearings will also address seed potatoes certification, leukosis-free cattle certification, and revised feeder swine import rules. Bob Uphoff supported the changes.
