Early North Wisconsin deer season vote eyed by hunters
Warden Supervisor John Plenke outlined plans for a public vote on an early north Wisconsin deer season. The proposal would allow a 12 to 16 day early opening with a sunset three year trial and separate north licenses, aiming to boost harvest and stretch hunting into favorable rut and weather periods. Public hearings across districts will pin down details and timing.

Izaak Walton League and Conservation Groups Honored
The Sheboygan County Izaak Walton League Chapter and the Sheboygan County Conservation Association received plaques from the Wisconsin DNA for outstanding conservation work. In early 1983 the Ikes started a program to improve hunter ethics and expand private land access. A $5,000 National Chapter grant funded a study surveying farmers in two townships and distributing 10,000 cards to hunters to leave with landowners. Roy Sebald accepted the award for the Ikes. Richard Hemp commented on landowner landuser concepts.
