Boyd Bee Beekeeping Fight Lingers in Boyd Village
For 40 years Frank Reith Jr and his mother kept 16 honeybee hives in Boyd, supplying 130 pounds of honey per hive. Since 1977 the village board banned beekeeping, threatening a 20 dollar daily fine. A Chippewa County Circuit Court challenge argues the ordinance targets Reith’s bees without citizen complaints. The village calls the bees a public nuisance amid petitions and safety concerns.

Beekeeping dispute tests Boyd Village limits
In Boyd, Esther Reith’s former yard shelters beehives that Frank Reith Jr. defends as longstanding. Village officials cite complaints and allergy fears as grounds for removing the hives, while Reith argues no names or formal complaints exist and notes bees pollinate local gardens. The stake centers on negotiating a solution before warm weather returns.
