Wisconsin farm groups and the state agriculture board moved to draft an alternative wetlands bill with partial agricultural exemptions and compensation for lands taken from farming. They cited NR 115 disputes over where and how wetlands are defined and which farming activities remain allowed, and established plans for an appeals board and prior cropping history exemption considerations.

Higher cranberry checkoff eyed by Wisconsin growers
Madison growers will vote in early 1981 on increasing the cranberry checkoff from 3 to 5 cents per barrel to fund research and a frost warning system. The proposal comes from the Wisconsin Cranberry Marketing Order advisory board. Dr. Gary Rohde noted the checkoff has raised $134,650 since 1974 and said the plan aims to boost self sufficiency and cut federal subsidies.
