Policyholders get reprieve on Martell Town Mutual second assessment
State officials grant a delay until January 16 for former Martell Town Mutual Insurance policyholders to pay the second assessment. Farmers and small businessmen may seek 8 to 9 percent SBA loans to cover the amount, while homeowners are ineligible. An alternative exists: if SBA funds are not approved by January 16, a later payment deadline of March 3 with 18 percent annual interest applies, but no interest if paid by January 16.
