Wisconsin dairy checkoff could boost state funds
Under a revised national dairy promotion program Wisconsin could double its annual income from 11 million to 22 million. The plan allows states to keep more funds by crediting existing state checkoffs up to 10 cents per hundredweight, potentially shifting money from national to state promotions. Wisconsin's board president expresses doubt about the full shift occurring. observers note the compromise aims to boost home promotion funds while preserving credits for state programs.

Complaints against inspector found not to warrant action
A review by Agriculture Secretary La Verne Ausman concludes complaints about inspector Michael Lombness, serving Madison to Stratford and southern counties, are nonspecific and do not justify action. The 2 page report, sent to the Assembly Agriculture Committee, notes testimony at a Marshfield hearing centered on his conduct during Grade A dairy inspections. It details outreach to dairy plant managers and producers, unease about inspection methods, and ongoing department training and counseling to address issues. The department plans to continue monitoring and improving inspector conduct.
