Ralph Larson to end 25 years as St. Croix ASCS director
Ralph Larson plans retirement from the St. Croix County ASCS after a 1955 start and 31 years of federal service. He shares tenure with Washburn County’s Winifred Johnebeck, began as CEO April 1, 1955, and will leave January 10. Larson recalls World War II service, farm roots, and early soil bank programs that transformed St. Croix County’s agriculture.

St Croix County Divides Soil Bank Use and Grain Growth
Final days debate centered on soil bank payments and farm land value in St. Croix County. Critics argued few farmers would pay for land in less fertile counties with smaller payments. The program was later phased out while grain production and storage boomed, with St. Croix County leading in government corn bin capacity.

Low turnout for Hay River watershed meeting disappoints officials
