Kitty the star cow of Lundberg herd in Trempealeau County

At the Lundberg farm between Osseo and Pigeon Falls, Kitty the 9-year-old Holstein leads the herd in milk and fat. In the last lactation she produced 41,044 pounds of milk and 1,603 pounds of fat. Despite a tempting Idaho offer to sell, the Lundbergs plan to use Kitty for future breeding. Their herd averages exceed 20,000 pounds of milk with 756 pounds of fat, and they aim to build an all-registered herd, though heifer calves remain scarce. They hope Kitty’s progeny, including potential daughters, will strengthen the lineup. The farm emphasizes high moisture corn and haulage in their ration, with no corn silage fed this year.

Spaeths top Dunn County milk producer keeps building

Dunn County dairy leader Ron Spaeth and his wife say they are still building and culling as they posted 18 774 pounds of milk and 739 pounds of butterfat for the DHIA year. Their mostly homegrown Holsteins trace to four of Mr Spaeths father s calves from 30 years ago. Spaeths use sour colostrum for calves cutting deaths and medicine needs while expanding high moisture corn storage and changing feed routines. They have had a strong heifer run with 16 of the last 19 calves being females over three years, and Spaeth notes his long tradition and AI program aimed at sustainable productivity.
