Farmers urged to diversify at ADAPT 100 conference
Thousands from 42 states attended the ADAPT 100 event sponsored by Successful Farming to learn diversification strategies for crisis era farming. Booker T. Whatley promoted turning 25 acres into 100000 with crops like ginseng and alligators, while others touted llamas, garbanzo beans, and direct pick-your-own programs.

Swanson Receives Wisconsin Cooperative Builders Award
Norman Swanson the retired general manager of Federation Cooperative Black River Falls received a cooperative builders award at the Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives annual meeting. He led the co op from 1952 enlarging services with a fertilizer plant three service stations a large automotive center and a major hardware and appliance store. He opened the 1 94 Oasis complex with a cheese shop restaurant campground and Arrowhead Lodge. Swanson’s efforts transformed finances and expanded member services while earning recognition from UW Madison and international cooperatives circles. Additional awardees included Ken Cisar Earl Guenther Don Storhoff Florian Van Dyck and Jim Hansen.

Cheryl Hartling resigns as executive director of the Dairy Council of Wisconsin. Daniel C. Borschke, current Dairy Nutrition Council president in Chicago, will serve as acting director and hire a nutrition education director to coordinate the program statewide. The not for profit group is funded by dairy farmers via the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board with offices in Elm Grove Appleton Madison and Eau Claire.
