Central District Livestock Show draws 69 exhibitors
Sixty nine youths entered 215 animals at the 38th Central District Junior Livestock Show held last week. Sheryl Hamilton, 16, of Hancock Waushara County, won multiple sheep honors including grand and reserve grand champion wethers and the outstanding lamb exhibitor. Paul Rodock, 15, Arkdale Adams County, claimed grand champion barrow and outstanding swine exhibitor. Todd Cherney, Milladore, took reserve grand champion barrow and senior showmanship. Mary Jo Holtz, 17, Oxford Marquette County, led beef with champion crossbred steer and outstanding beef exhibitor. Scott Bayer, 15, Schofield Marathon County, earned reserve grand champion steer. The event highlighted beef sheep and swine contests with numerous regional competitors. The Central District spans Adams, Juneau, Wood, Marathon, Portage, Marquette, Waushara and Portage counties.

Central Wisconsin sale nets $34742 for 97 animals market sale
Ninety seven head of livestock and eighteen carcasses sold to about seventy one buyers from Marathon Wood Portage Adams Juneau Waushara and Marquette counties at the Central District Junior Livestock Show market animal sale. Top bids included grand champion wether at 1.25 per pound and steer bids up to 1.10, with lamb and hog carcasses selling between 1.06 and 1.70 per pound. Receipts lagged last year’s total of about $47,600 by roughly $12,858.
