County farm offers plots for city gardeners in Eau Claire
County residents and clients from the L E Phillips Career Development Center can rent 20 by 50 foot plots at the health care center. More than 10 acres are available with 325 plots this year. About 260 families garden, aided by senior citizens and 75 Hmong families. Rental is 7.50 for each plot, water is supplied via a metered underground system. The program is funded by renters, not county subsidies, and aims to provide fresh vegetables, cut costs, and teach living skills.
