The country today reports a 1980 Congress mandate for mandatory review of disability cases at least every three years with rare exceptions for permanent and very severe disabilities. Beneficiaries may be contacted for new medical evidence and possible exams. continued payments occur if still disabled, with an appeal option if not.
A House-Senate conference panel finished a package trimming USDA farm and food programs by nearly 11.7 billion over 1982 to 1984. Highlights include tighter food stamp eligibility, a four year dairy price support program, strict USDA personnel ceilings, and revised costs for forest, soil, and other farm programs. The plan also covers fuel, fees, credit, REA loans, and fazing out storage facilities.
Congressman Robert Kastenmeier of Wisconsin introduces the Family Farm Antitrust Act of 1981 to curb non farming asset holders from controlling farm production. The bill bans entities with more than five million dollars in non farming assets from farming or leasing farms, sets five year divestment, and empowers Farmers Home Administration to buy holdings at fair value if needed. It also expands civil penalties and exempts cooperatives and non profit educational and research bodies.
