Newport-Mesa Unified School District and City Council pass a joint resolution to study building a skate park on an unused Davis Elementary School track. A city planning task force would seek resident input from Mesa del Mar HOA while school board approval is needed to finalize plans and cost estimates remain undetermined.
A year after the attacks Costa Mesa residents organized mourning and outreach across churches schools and homes. Services candle vigils and prayers marked the week of National Day of Prayer and Remembrance. Teachers and principals guided students through questions while counselors aided those affected.
On the September 11 anniversary the city hosts a Patriot Day memorial at noon in the Arlington Theater on the Orange County Fairgrounds 88 Fair Drive. Police and firefighter color guards interfaith speakers a moment of silence and memory balloons release. Christ Lutheran Church holds a 7 pm Sept 11 memorial service.
