A Coshocton junior chamber of commerce was formed by 50 young businessmen at the Ohio Power company office on Thursday night. Bob Johns outlined aims, Gene Bell named temporary constitution committee, and a March 25 meeting will elect permanent officers and present a charter from state officers. Members 21 to 35 are urged to join. social programs are planned monthly.
President William Green of the AFL urged Truman to scrap the current chaotic stabilization program and form a new one with labor, industry and agriculture. He called for a sane plan to be imposed for one year then all wage and price controls removed, criticizing labor management handling and urging a clear deadline to return to a peace basis.
More than 1,400 police were assigned to guard Winston Churchill today and the CIO council prepared to place about 5,000 pickets around the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York where he will speak. The protest targets Churchill's anti Russian views amid recent Soviet attacks on a U S speech.
Safety Service Director J E Trubenbach announced the G E pipe line has progressed outside city limits to a point 800 feet beyond. Workers can now lay 300 to 400 feet of pipe daily on the project according to the city official.
Bessie Fowler on Route 3 and William F. Martin's office report a motorist was fined 100 dollars plus land costs for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in the city early today.
MASSILLON UP The city served notice it would withdraw fire protection from Massillon state hospital unless the Ohio department of welfare signs a fire protection contract by March 25. Mayor S Robert Weirich said negotiations have lasted over a year. A $4800 sum was requested. A hospital fire left a firefighter with hearing injury on a hospital laundry trip. city official Roesch ruled protection not owed outside city limits without a signed state contract. The hospital lies a mile south of the city and houses over 3,000 people.
Safety director J. E. B. Trubenhach announces completion of 40 feet of drainage sewer to carry water from Walnut, Main and Second streets. The project includes a grand storm pipe line and is being laid by the Shelley Sands Company.
Prime Minister Clement Attlee told the House of Commons Britain would help India gain independence speedily and fully whether inside or outside the empire. A ministerial mission would go to India with a free hand to aid a smooth transition and possible self government, while minority issues and unity were emphasized.
Garfield Clark Jr 22 died in Coshocton City hospital after a horse kick Tuesday. He was a 1942 Newcomerstown High School graduate who served three years overseas in World War II and was discharged last year. Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 30 p m at Newcomerstown First Baptist Church with burial planned later. He is survived by three sisters and two brothers. Funeral task and burial details finalized by local church.
