A Grand Trunk Pan American flyer from Chicago plowed into about 1,500 excursionists at Canfield and Dequinder streets in Detroit. At least seven people died and many were seriously injured, mostly Toledo visitors who had gathered to return home after a Polish holiday. Police say the whistle and bell were not heard, and ambulances rushed to the scene.

Railroad Will Dig Big Hole Through Allegheny Foothills
Pittsburg May 4 a great hole over five miles long and over 130 feet deep will be cut through the Allegheny foothills at Derry summit between Latrobe and Millwood by the Pennsylvania railroad this spring to improve grades and remove curves. The cuts will be the deepest on the system, requiring 3000 men for two years and more than 3 million dollars. Over 4.5 million cubic yards of rock and earth will be removed over seven miles of distance.

Priest Denounces Murder Case From Altar in Lorain
In Lorain Ohio on May 4 Rev Charles Retchlin pastor of St Josephs denounced authorities who jailed Rev Ferdinand Warner for the murder of Miss Agatha Reichlin. He declared Father Walser innocent and urged prayers for both victims and for Walser as a public opinion clash surrounds the case. The weapon was a paving stone and the crime occurred at the Reichlin home during Father Reichlins absence. Walser remains jailed in Elyria awaiting a preliminary hearing likely Tuesday.
