Good Oil Well Shot Today in Washington Township
The Newark Olio and Gaz company on the Perkins farm in Washington township struck oil with nitroglycerine at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. The flow is the largest yet seen in the county and prospects for a strong well look favorable. The McCoy lease nearby had a previous good well estimated at 10 to 20 barrels per day. A large crowd attended despite rain, and the Washington oil field shows promise.

Rubber Investors Hold A Conference In Ohio

Nineteen sailors believed dead after the steel steamer Ira A. Owen foundering in Lake Superior during a gale off the Apostle Islands. The wreckage was spotted by the H. B. Nye with life preservers marked Owen. Names of crew known include Joseph Mulligan captain Thomas Homner first mate M. Haggerty second mate H. Buchanan first engineer B. Alger second engineer and others. The Owen built in Cleveland in 1887 was valued at 100000 and carried barley cargo insured.
