In Petersburg dispatches the sultan agreed to all Russian demands within 12 hours after the note. The Black Sea squadron, sent to support Russia, was ordered home from eastern Turkish waters after the porte declared compliance. Reports from Adrianople describe Turkish officials punished or dismissed and order sought. Bulgarian frontiers see renewed fighting with several villages burned and Turkish forces defeated. The Turkish foreign ministry quickly accepted the Russian terms, and withdrawal orders were issued to the Russian squadron.

Chili physician makes unsuccessful suicide attempt
