The Ohio Experiment Station reports low current Hessian fly complaints but advises guarding against a sudden resurgence. Farmers can test risk by sowing a small wheat strip two weeks before the main crop and inspecting early growth for reddish eggs under a magnifier. The flax seeds are misidentified larvae, not eggs.
In Rosewood John Goldsmith prepares to erect a new dwelling. Wm Arnold and B F Merk were in Corydon last week. Ed Colvin moved to New Albany for work. Miss Alice Miller visited Evans Landing friends. Will Cooper and family visited New Albany relatives. Mrs W T Berry and Miss Iva Reeves hosted guests from Ohio. Mr and Mrs John Summers visited J E Miller. Rev Dobson to give farewell at Rosewood Chapel next Sunday at 3. Wm Arnold and wife and B F Merk and wife were guests at Joseph Fink's home. Mrs Luke Cole went to Louisville for grandson Maurice McRae's illness. On the 9th, a baby boy Homer Q T Berry Jr died at two months. The family cites the Bible teaching of Heaven for little ones.
The Floyd county Republicans named their ticket on the 30th alt to contest November elections. Dr Lemon led over Capt James H Meekin by 141 for Representative. Thomas McCulloch beat Harry W Vance by two for County Auditor. Other offices had no contests. forecast predicts about a 1000 vote majority defeat.
On September 3 at 3 p m Aaron Culomer Johnson and Minnie Alice Shuck were united in marriage at Bethesda. Rev Hartman officiated. About one hundred guests attended the reception at the bride’s home with gifts and warm wishes. The next evening the bridal party was entertained at the groom’s mother’s home.
An old warning favors limited surgical use and promotes De Witt’s Witch Hazel Salve as a quick cure for cuts burns bruises and skin diseases. A testimonial from J C Philips of Paris Illinois claims relief from bleeding piles after using the salve sold by L A Rigby and Son.

Miss Bertha Temple of New Albany spent a week visiting relatives here. Cain Felliy and wife visited G. A. Crosby’s on Friday night before departing for Emisor Knox county. Aunt Elizabeth Stevens marked her 72nd birthday with a pleasant surprise dinner on the 26th.
Mauckport reports Dan Struble moving to Titus while Ed Miller and wife of Meade county Ky visit relatives here. Miss Bird Miller returns from Corydon. Mrs Minnie Lederman and daughter Flora visit relatives. Belle Gwartney in Louisville on business. Isaac Lederman plans Louisville home. Earl and Mamie Ashcraft visit. Charles Hardin and wife return from New Amsterdam. Burdick Steepre returns from the steamer W W O Neil idle due to low water.
Mrs Mary Walthers and three daughters of Louisville visit this vicinity. A child of Ike Flock died last week. Miss Kate Kisert after staying in Louisville visited home folks. Miss Barbara Gerline of Louisville visits here. Misses Mary Voelker and Maggie Sheen return to Louisville. Mr and Mrs Fred Walther and daughter Mamie attended his brother's funeral last Tuesday. Philip Lieber Sr lately sick is able to be out again.
Josh Westhafer of Loogootee Indiana says Chamberlain's Pain Balm saved him from being a cripple and relieves stiff joints contracted muscles stiff neck sprains and rheumatic pains. It cures many cases of partial paralysis and is sold at Crosier's Corner drug store.

A large crowd from DePauw attended the Marengo fair last Thursday. J. O. Greene left for St. Louis for a traveling salesman post with Pratt Food Co. Rev W C Crawford preached his closing Mt Zion sermon for the Fredericksburg M E church conference year.
Louis Schmitt died last Friday of consumption in Frenchtown. Miss Virgie Sieg of Moberly visits Felix Vausha. Mrs. Nellie Troncin visits her parents in Seymour Indiana. Theodore Henriot attended the New Albany carnival. Mrs. Watkins of Mooresville visits her brother Joseph Bee. Miss Emma Nolot goes to New Albany for an open-ended stay. A party including Martin Bary Adolph Pate Eddie Henriott Henry Bary Martin Gurtz Nellie Gurtz Josie Henriot Linda Henriot visited Wyandotte Cave Saturday.
The county council met in regular session for three days to examine the county officers budget. The Board of Commissioners had kept estimates low and the council made only a few material changes, praised for close oversight of county business.
Editors argue that paying four or five hundred dollars for short fair races is wasteful. They claim premiums go to outsiders who take winnings away and note that fast horses rarely win as modern trains replace coaches. Jockeying at the fair is common and breeding is limited.
Conrad May died at his home in Boone township on Sunday from Brights disease and was buried at Goshen on Monday. He was about 62 years old and had suffered illness for several months. A highly respected citizen, Boone township has lost one of its best men.

Charles Hay of Clark county claimed his ox missing from the Harrison county fair. He obtained a warrant against William Mayo of Farmer Missouri, alleging theft. Mayo, arrested in St. Louis, says he was Hay's partner and returned from Missouri without a requisition. preliminary trial before Justice Morris is set for next week.
Floyd Miller born July 15 1901 died August 30 1902 after illness. The brief notice notes his death at age one and a half, with poetic reflection on the sadness of loss and the fleeting nature of life. Democratic officials reduced taxation on the $100 in four years from 1899 to 1902 by 27 cents, with yearly cuts of 9, 10, 1 and 7 cents. Last Republican assessment was 71 3 cents. Democratic assessment this year is 45 1 3 cents. Voters will decide this fall.
The will of Mary Applegate, now probated, directs debts and funeral expenses be paid first. A grave stone is to be erected for her and her mother at Posey township. The new Christian church at Georgetown was dedicated last Sunday by Rev. Harkins of Anderson IN. A large attendance showed strong interest in the modern structure. A popular subscription of 483.43 freed the church from debt and left funds to build a baptistry buy a organ finish furnace and cover remaining needs. Elder Grubb received much praise for his work among Georgetown residents.
Indianapolis visitors led by W Forsythe spend weeks in Corydon. The landscape painter, a noted instructor, sketches scenery with students including Lucy M Taggart daughter of Hon. Thomas Taggart along Indian Creek. Forsythe paints many pictures each season for sale at his home.
William L. Herbaugh of Texas wed Mrs. Martha Rh ts in a ceremony performed by Rev. Winkler last week. They departed for Palestine Texas where Herbaugh reportedly owns sizable farming interests and a large bank account. He left the county in 1847 and has since lived in the South. he is uncle to Squire Asa Herbaugh of the township.
As we go to press the State trial against Cyrus B. Lewis is underway in the Circuit court. Mrs. James R. Tabler obtained a warrant charging trespass for remaining on the sidewalk in front of her buildings after being ordered off. Lewis contends he acted to prevent certain crimes at the time.

Lou Daily returned from Knox county, George Wolfe moved to Corydon, W A Watson visited Louisville, Mrs. Cora Windell visited New Albany, Alvin Sonner went to Illinois for farm work. A child of Leslie Ripperdan was buried at New Amsterdam Sunday. Edith Wright attended Crawford county fair after visiting Wyandotte Cave. Bettie Lopp and family returned to Columbus last Saturday. Our ball team played Mauckport Saturday in a late contest halted by darkness with a 13 13 score.
Ed Radmacher lost a valuable horse last week. Jack Hause of Louisville visited his best girl at Laconia on Sunday. A large crowd attended the basket meeting at Crosier's grave on Sunday. Ed Ashton, once confined to his room for weeks, is now able to go out. Mr and Mrs Ed Byrum of Ellwood Indiana are visiting relatives in Laconia and nearby areas.

Bertha Purple of Corydon is visiting her cousin Grace Baxley. J. P. McCoy and wife plan to visit their daughter Mrs. W. W. Guernsey in Clark county.
