New Albany merchants unite to push home commerce over mail orders in a bold campaign. The Public Press highlights over fifty local ads urging residents to patronize area businesses to boost town value and community growth.

It notes Red River Valley leveling Norwegians farming forward plowing for next year and mentions sons training in Iowa and cattle sale near Corydon Junction on October 11.
Superintendent A O DeWeese receives state notice that each pupil will be furnished a Food Production and Food Conservation text from the State Board of Education. The board also requires study of the book and appoints a State High School organizer to visit schools and enlist pupil support in food conservation and the Boys Working Reserve.
Legal decision ends dispute over two million three hundred thousand acres. Land revested in the United States and opened under homestead laws with modifications for settlement and sale at two dollars fifty cents per acre with fifty cents due at entry and final proof due later. An advertisement asserts catarrhal deafness stems from inflamed Eustachian tubes and cannot be cured by local applications. It claims Hall's Catarrh Medicine cures via the blood and offers $100 for any case it cannot cure, with free care and ingredients.
Wilford L. Burn of Corydon reports relief from back pain and irregular kidney secretions after using Doan's Kidney Pills bought at Riely's Drug Store. He endorses the remedy and urges others to demand Doan's Kidney Pills priced 60 cents at dealers. Foster Milburn Co. Buffalo New York sponsors the ad.
Death claimed Rose Stonecipher on August 24 1917 at age 24 with husband two daughters Mildred and Mary Evelyn and her parents four siblings left to mourn. Funeral at U B church Corydon with Rev Fouts burial in Jordan's cemetery. Family laments and prayers follow in a memorial verse.
Brengman Charles Brengman and Miss Teresa Wiedert, popular Aurora residents, wed at St Marys Catholic Church in Aurora on September 12. They will travel first to Corydon to visit relatives before continuing to Mt Vernon then home. Charles is a car builder, son of Mrs Anna Brengman, who lived near Nevin until four years ago.
A clipped verse circulates about a man in a town who refused advertising until he finally did. The poem references a sheriff sale and a misprinted ad in noopareil style, later reproduced by the New York Sun.
