Old Capitol Hotel Sold in Farm Transfer to Brother

The German Porter of a Lost Corydon Comb Factory
The article recalls elder Henry Pepper, a German immigrant who settled near Corydon around 1825 and started a horn comb factory in Pleasant Valley. Using hand tools, horns from Louisville were steamed, pressed, and cut into red ding and tucking combs, with spoons made from surplus horn. Pepper ceased in 1850 as factory-made combs arrived cheaper. He later farmed, sold produce in Corydon, and owned a horse-drawn wagon. He was known for a watch that could strike hours on demand.
