Fight Tuberculosis in Harrison County Seeks Public Help

The Society for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis held its first Harrison County session in Corydon on November 14. The group urged immediate prevention, noted high deaths from consumption among ages 20 to 35, and announced Red Cross Christmas seals sales to fund education and county needs.

Octogenarian Dies Buried in Posey Township

Mrs. Dosia Bowling widow of Henry Bowling died Saturday night at the home of her niece in New Albany after living there ten years. She was eighty eight, born Tuell, last aunt of Ed Tuell, and buried in Kerr's graveyard Posey township. Edward Dupin visited from Saskatoon and will return to Canada. Charles Fogal, barber injured in a street accident, was hospitalized with multiple injuries including broken ribs and a dislocated patella. He resides near Corydon. treated by Dr. Roy Moore.

Death of George Reuter in Webster township

George Reuter a well known county resident died Monday in Webster township after months of illness from dropsy. Funeral held Tuesday at New Middletown Reformed church with Rev Theo Mueller and Rev Mc Vey officiating. Burial in New Middletown cemetery. Born in Louisville he was 53, married to Nettie Bickel with two daughters and a son surviving. He would have turned 54 next January.

Junior Society to Host Thanksgiving Entertainment at Church

The Junior Society of the United Brethren church will present an evening of songs and recitations in the church auditorium on Thanksgiving. Many children will participate in the program. Admission is free. Afterward a fish pond will be set up in the church basement for attendees.

Lecture series to be hosted by Dr. R E King at U B church

Dr. R E King will present the next lecture on December 4 at the U B church, guaranteed by the bureau to please 97 percent of the audience or a free repeat. Prof Stout agrees to a two-number plan with Corydon residents helping fund the school. if second-night ticket sales reach $60 by 6 p m December 4, all receipts go to the second number.

Double Wedding in Auburn Indiana Unites Burke Girls

On Thursday November 16 at noon the Rev. R I Platter united Grace I Burke and Benj F Miller and Anna Marie Burke and Frank Wallace Hamlin in Auburn Indiana. The ring ceremony impressed attendees. Afterward the couples planned visits to Dayton Ohio Chicago and Michigan City and will be at home on South Randolph Street Garrett Indiana after December 1.

Farmers Short Course Arrives in Corydon and Harrison County

Nearly every resident knows December 2 to 4 mark the Farmers Short Course with seven Purdue University instructors visiting. Five rooms are secured in Shuck’s carriage building and four in the new Bullett building for the meetings. Inquire for a program and invite neighbors to attend.

The Harrison County Sunday School Convention met at Corydon United Brethren Church with strong turnout. Miss Hazel Lewis of Indianapolis spoke on elementary grade work and earned high praise for her talks. Officers included Dr. O. W. Hottle as president and Miss Ollie May Hisey as secretary treasurer, with goals to make Harrison a Front Line County in the year ahead.

Boy Burned Playing With Shell Sparks Eye Injury

Nine year old Roy Secrist of Webster township was badly burned when he cut off a shell end and ignited the powder with a match. The explosion burned his face but doctors expect full recovery. Dr. Smoots of New Middletown treated him.

High School Notes Highlights Attendance and Activities

Attendance averages across grades run above 99 percent with seniors at 98.7 and sophomores 99.5. The school year sees a diphtheritic epidemic yet strong overall engagement. A literary society for high school pupils formed to foster speaking, parliamentary practice, and ties with the community, with officers led by Earl Miller and others. Dr. R E King will lecture next. tickets aim to raise 60 dollars for Public Schools. Lina Black missed a week due to poisoning.

Death of Henry J Roehrig in Louisville

Henry J Roehrig died at 47 on Wednesday November 13 in St Marys and Elizabeth Hospital Louisville after a sudden illness from an ear abscess that spread to the brain. The funeral was at Holy Cross church Friday at 9 AM with interment in St Michael's cemetery. He had been married twice and leaves a widow and several children. One child was born to his union with Sallie Deutsch of this county about three years ago.
