Pittsburgh AP The State Pardons Board will consider a mother's plea for release of her teen age son who is serving 10 to 20 years for the fatal beating of a Brackenridge woman. Jerry Pacek was 19 at conviction. Mrs Clara Pacek of Brackenridge asked the board yesterday to free her son. Louis Abramson and Allegheny County district attorney opposed. They say his youth did not justify a first degree verdict and he should serve the minimum sentence before seeking clemency.
New York reports that 63 year old window washer John Hirowski dangled from a faulty safety belt outside a sixty floor West 51st Street building. After about ten minutes of screaming for help, police arrived to find him unresponsive and he died of heart failure.
Ray McKimm of Australia, a Royal Australian Air Force member who toured Corry in July 1949 during a War Bond rally, recalls his 1944 visit and the three Corry Boy Scouts pictured on July 4, 1944.
