Sabin Vaccine Scare Cuts Turnout

Warren County Medical Society sponsored Sabin oral polio vaccine clinics. Officials blamed reports of trouble with the vaccine for a turnout drop across seven centers. Nationwide turnout fell to 11,720 or 95 percent below the 15,000 average. In Warren County, Columbus, and other centers, Type I and Type II vaccines showed marked declines, with Columbus down to 350 doses from 550 previously and plans announced for a repeat distribution next Sunday. State Health Service advised the Type II vaccine was absolutely safe.

Nine new astronauts join Yankee space team

Houston AP Nine new astronauts including two civilians were added to the nation’s space team bringing the total to 16. Dr. Robert Gilruth announced the group at Cullen Auditorium on the University of Houston campus. The civilians are Nell Armstrong and Elliot Lee Jr. The nine have test pilot backgrounds and will enter a rigorous training program at the Manned Spacecraft Center as NASA works toward a moon goal this decade. The Air Force officers are Maj Frank Borman Capt James McDivitt and Capt Thomas Stafford with service in Edwards AFB and Edwards area.

Motorcycle crashes injure three in Corry vicinity

Weekend sunshine lured riders to roads with several crashes. An Erie man, a Corry man and his 11 year old son were among those injured. The incidents occurred on West Smith Street in Corry and in Spartansburg borough, with total damage listed at 825 dollars.

Motorcycle crash outsized: Erie man leaped to avoid injury

Corry A 20 year old Erie man Satur day lost control of a narrowed motorcycle on West Smith street. The rider jumped off to avoid serious injury as the machine sped 225 feet into a field near Hateh street. He was hospitalized with multiple injuries. Police said Elwell was about 50 miles an hour east on West Smith street near the Hateh street curve when he tried to cut back the throttle and slow down.

Motorcycle crash in Spartansburg injures father son

In Spartansburg last night a motorcycle collided with a truck at South Main and Jefferson streets. Gary Pate, 38, and his 11 year old son were hospitalized in fair condition with multiple injuries. the elder suffered a fractured right shoulder and head injuries while the boy had a right arm fracture and head injuries. Nevin Teed, 23, of Townville, driving the truck, reportedly turned left into the path of the bike. Police said about 100 cmake damage to the truck and 600 to the motorcycle. charges pending.

Knights Templar reception for John B. Cottrell Jr. held in Corry

The Knights Templar of Northwestern Pennsylvania Division No 12 hosted a reception at Corry Area High School for John B. Cottrell Jr of Media PA right eminent grand commander of Pennsylvania.
