Mine riot at Connellsville mine ends with tear gas

Snipers and mine guards clash at Connellsville mine in Scott's Run district. A guard is wounded in the neck as attackers disperse after tear gas bombs. Eighteen men arrested following the incident. Guards fire toward a boarding house and sweep hillsides with machine gun fire.

Bandits Hold Up Two Chicago Banks For Loot

Bandits struck two Chicago area banks today seizing cash ranging from twelve thousand six hundred to seventeen thousand five hundred. Five gunmen entered Banco Di Napoli on South Halsted Street and escaped in a sedan under sawed off shotguns. In Plessmoor a southern suburb, four men robbed the state bank and fled with substantial loot.

Thief Enters Wright Street Home For $40

A burglar entered Ray Edson's Wright Street home overnight and stole $40 from a local lodge fund where a Second Ward treasurer kept cash. Four $10 bills hidden under a buffet cover were taken after the thief watched the money being stored. Police probe continues with limited progress as investigators consider links to a recent canned fruit theft.

Fourth Ward Store Changes Hands

Indictments in Meadville Arson Case Gridiron of Charges

Indictments were returned in Cragg ford county court at Meadville against Louis Kaufman Frank Girardot Henry Cornell and Thomas Shock for arson with 13 true bills and four not true bills. The grand jury also indicted H E Springer on two separate charges related to a fatal July 20 automobile crash near Adamsville. Four Erie men were arrested last May after an insurance and State Police probe into a Summerhill township fire. Shock and Cornell are jailed. Kaufman and Girardot are in heavy bonds.

The W. C 1 U met at Mrs. Lugg Heckerthorn's West Columbus Avenue home Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Lattle Brickman, president in charge. Thirteen members attended, new directors for the coming year were appointed, reports given, and an address on Citizenship delivered by Mrs. Bila Sister.
