Grape Harvest Stalls As Rain Slows California Growers
Rain slows grape deliveries across Chautauqua County with about 40 percent of the crop still unpicked. Growers face reduced picker enthusiasm in cold wet weather while some large operations consider cutting labor if conditions do not improve. Grapes at peak sugar content will not improve with warmth, and temperatures dipping to the mid 20s could freeze remaining fruit needing rapid harvest and processing. Weather forecasts call for clearing skies and cooler temperatures in the near term.
