Suspected Spy Sure AF Will Clear Him
At Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida an Air Force master sergeant, M Sergeant Walter Perkins, is jailed on charges of intending to pass classified defense material to unauthorized persons. His attorney says the man is not guilty and trusts the military justice system to vindicate him. The case links to alleged Soviet involvement and involves handling documents from the Air Defense Weapons Center. Police report violence at a three day old Litton Erie Marine dock strike as barricades and nails were used and a worker was struck with an iron pipe. Perkins is veteran, father of four, and a senior intelligence official at the base. The base, near Panama City, hosts a 5000 to 6000 population and is the Aerospace Defense Command’s only weapons center. The Defense Department confirmed the arrest but offered limited details.
