Man Without Country Vagabond Stalls in Corry

At 89, Royal F. Zimmerman travels the country in a 1928 Whippet living as a self described vagabond of the red. He stopped in Beaverdam asking to park near a store. John Wentz sheltered him. Born likely in 1889 in Connecticut, he spent years in Canada and Fargo, North Carolina, and now faces Canada’s gate due to a missing birth certificate. He has drawn U.S. Social Security benefits, hopes to return to Canada to obtain land, and his car has logged 90,000 miles while serving as home for 22 years.

Area Man 37 Dies As Truck Rams Tree

A Centervine man died after his truck left Route 3 and struck a tree following a sideswipe with a station wagon. John W. Smith, 37, of Latrobe, was thrown from the vehicle at about 6 20 p m and pronounced dead in Crawford County. Ralph Ayell, 63, of Erle, pulled his wagon aside to avoid the crash. Smith, a former Latrobe resident, worked as a mechanic for Snaptite Co Union Gary. Funeral arrangements were set for Latrobe with services Wednesday at 2 p m at Latrobe Unity Cemetery.

Fifth U.S. nuclear blast fired at Nevada test site

The fifth detonation in the current series occurred today at the Tomic test site Nev as a balloon mounted device released a 1 500 foot altitude blast. Few Students Attend Private Classes in Little Rock

In Little Rock Arkansas a small number of high school students attend their first day of private classes while new battle rooms report they will accept about six students for a limited curriculum.
