Youngsville road worker killed by coal truck on Route 62
John Matteo of Youngsville was killed instantly yesterday at 11 05 p m when struck by a coal truck on Route 62 about two miles south of Irvine He was crossing the highway to work on guard rails and was dragged 53 feet after his clothing caught on the chassis Two other highway department employees were at the scene and transported to Warren General Hospital by the Youngsville volunteer fire department ambulance Fellow employee Donald L Chambers 18 warned Matteo not to cross but Matteo began during the first truck's pass Bert Honsild 41 of Tionesta tried to avoid hitting Matteo but could not after the second truck approached from the south The driver Bennett Cummings took Matteo to the scene Sheriff Linder State Trooper Kalina and Coroner Lowrey investigated Matteo, born in Italy, came to the United States at 14 and was naturalized.

Open Period Of Mourning For Pope Pius XI
