Volunteer Agency To Set Up Here

The Voluntary Action Center for Southeastern Erie County will establish a CORry operation in partnership with COVE. The project, funded by a one year Project ELITE grant, will recruit volunteers and refer them to participating agencies with a planned November 1 opening and a donor church space host.

Light Damage Reported In 2 Wrecks Here

City police investigated two minor accidents yesterday. The first occurred at 2 25 p m at Main and South Center when Jean Kay Jewell 25 of 343 Spring street collided with a tractor trailer driven by Bernard Spinek 52 of Erie. Jewell said she thought the semi was turning left as she pulled up behind it. She tried to pass on the right in the through lane but the truck’s size caused it to straddle two lanes. Both planned to go straight on East Main and collided. Jewell’s car sustained light damage. the semi was undamaged and no injuries or citations were reported. About an hour later officers investigated a second minor incident in the high school parking lot as Honnie C Marsh 18 of Columbus backed from a space.

Corry Gets US Aid For Police

James 8 Wilson announced that Corry will receive 1296 in federal funds for emergency lighting on police vehicles. Local share 598 brings total to 1851. The highway safety group assists communities in obtaining federal funds with 150 grants totaling nearly 2.1 million this year.

Meat may include bone in processed meats under plan

The Agriculture Department proposes allowing up to 20 percent bone and connective tissue in processed meats like bologna and salami. Ground bone fragments would pass through sieves while large bone parts stay out. labels would warn consumers. Critics call labels inaccurate and warn of potential health effects. the plan follows a previous blocked proposal.

Newlywed stabbed to death in New Hope suburb

In New Hope Minnesota Sasamt Rosenthal a 29 year old newlywed was found dead with multiple stab wounds in her kitchen. The killer left spray painted warnings on two neighboring houses reading You Are Next Maybe You There Are More Police said the husband Allen J was away on a business trip in California at the time as residents described a normally peaceful block.

Nab Man Suspected Of Hot Check Game

An Oregon man, Alec L. Foltz, 36, of Portland, is in Warren County Jail on $13,000 bond after alleged forgery, receiving stolen property, attempted forgery, aggravated assault on an officer and firearms violations. Foltz, who uses the alias John Leeky Jr, is suspected of cashing stolen traveler’s checks and money orders at Corry banks. He was subdued after resisting arrest at Warren National Bank and is to be moved to face further charges.

No Sewer Line For North Hills Homes

City engineer David Johnson says eight North Hills property owners cannot proceed with a planned sanitary sewer hookup. The contractor has begun work toward the golf course, but the group must unanimously agree on one of five cost-splitting options or a new plan. If no agreement is reached soon, the sewer line will stop at the North Hills boundary and future hookup could be more expensive, with possible health department action.

Strikers May Pick Up Checks At McInnes Plant

Hourly employees on strike at McInnes Steel Co may collect paychecks this afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at the plant personnel office. The company and the union continue negotiations on a new contract amid on going union activity.
