Douglas Howes, 20, of Ashtabula, died from a fractured skull after slipping from a cliff above Elk Creek near the Gudgeonville Bridge north of Girard. State police said he was alone at the edge around 11:30 a.m. and died at the scene. five companions waited at the bottom.
