Johnson Tex AP reports that 120 projects totaling 35 million will start under the anti poverty program. Job Corps centers for youths 16 to 21 receive 15 million, with volunteers to be recruited next week. Other funds support community programs and neighborhood youth corps in 13 states, with major allocations to Detroit Los Angeles Washington Pittsburgh and Atlanta.

Dallas AP reports Jack Ruby spent a routine day in his Dallas County jail cell on the first anniversary of the shooting. Sheriff Bl Docker said Ruby followed his usual routine and spent much time playing dominoes with his cellmate, as other days.
Albert Cole of Corry Red Cross says Erie County had no canteen truck at the high school fire. He explains a miscommunication led to rumors that Erie refused to send help. William McKinley later clarified Erie had no such truck and the answering clerk should have said no truck was available.
Stan Kenton announces the formation of the Los Angeles Neophonic Orchestra to perform jazz symphonies and works for large ensembles. The group will debut at Los Angeles new Musto Center in January.
Westmoreland County Coroner Stephen D. Yaney reports that Layne Sander, four, found a .38 caliber pistol on a night stand in Mrs. Cellma Renshaw's bedroom and, after two failed shots, fired a third that struck the 80 year old woman in the chest.
Two victims of yesterday's Elk street crossing crash remain hospitalized in Corry Memorial Hospital. Mrs Michael Sprovers is in fair condition with a shoulder injury. Her daughter Linda, age 1, is listed in poor condition with a possible skull fracture and transferred to St Vincent's in Erie. Vicki, 9, treated for facial lacerations, was released. The children attend Wright School.
Bangkok reports two US Air Force planes ferrying two pilots each from Udorn to Danang vanished six days ago. Pathet Lao claims and downed aircraft reports heighten concern as search continues for the missing pilots and crews.
A Belgian refugee Fernand Deprey reported witnessing American missionary Paul Carlson shot by Congolese rebels in Stanleyville. Deprey, among 160 detainees, said rebels opened fire as paratroopers approached, Carlson shot in the street, body later found. He described Carlson as cheerful but not a moral example.
Wayne sburg report says flight instructor Bloyd W. Stockdale 58 and student Charl Donaghey 34 were slightly injured after their light airplane crashed into trees near a runway at Greene County Municipal Airport. Stockdale managing the airport. Both received treatment at Greene County Memorial Hospital.
Erie County commissioners debated suspending a Friday and Saturday off plan for courthouse staff. Fred W. Lamberton objected stating the current 30 to 33 hour week already limits public service. A compromise offer to shift Friday hours and trim Saturday was rejected, with a decision expected today.
Christmas shopping begins this week with Corry merchants promoting gift items in The Journal. Santa Claus greets youngsters downtown Friday at 7 p.m. Stores extend hours from December 15 through 24, 9 p.m. to 9 p.m., with special Stag Night on Monday December 18.
In Rome producer Dino De Laurentiis says he intends to make a film about Greta Garbo. He added his wife actress Silvana Mangano will meet Garbo and he will try to contact her to seek collaboration.
Henry McDermott aged 53 of Nicktown was killed when a rock fall trapped him at the Glory Goal Co mine in Alverda Indiana County last night. He worked as a continuous mining op.

Gov. Scranton ended the fire and smoking ban in 20 western counties after advice from Dr. Maurice K. Goddard that conditions no longer warrant the prohibition. The ban remains in 47 counties. Counties affected include Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Chariton, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Lehigh, Warren, Washington, and Westmoreland.
A state official urged traffic precautions over the long weekend noting four permits were issued in a crash prone period last year. He advised safe travel to and from football games and emphasized orderly movement through major routes.
