Blast blamed on electric spark kills six in Bethlehem mine

A Bureau of Mines report cites an electric arc from trolley equipment igniting methane as the cause of the September 28 blast at Bethlehem Mines Corp Marianna No. 58 in Marianna Pennsylvania. Eleven men were underground then with 72 normally employed. The explosion followed a failed ventilating fan and halted airflow, with officials among the 11.
